Discuss about the role of weathering in the origin of soil.

The role of weathering in the origin of soil is the most important.

 (1) First stage :-

The process of weathering on the original rock layer of the earth's surface - the soil material is mechanically broken down from active to hard rock and the solid material in the rock, liquid material and gaseous minerals are chemically dissociated into homogenous unconsolidated, crushed and separated material on the parent rock layer of the crust.  A soft ground layer is formed, consisting of minerals and organic matter called regolith.  It is the initial state of soil formation and the basic material of soil. This regolith determines the nature of the soil.  Special weathering processes in specific parent rocks produce specific types of regolith that determine soil types.  For example, thermal mechanical weathering from sandstone, granite, red, yellow, brown and laterite soil from oxidation process from physical and iron-rich rocks, charnozem and renzina soil from calcination process from limestone and dolomite, alkaline soil from moist analysis process.

 (2) Second stage :-

Organic matter and water are added to the regolith in the process of humification, and minerals are added in the process of mineralization to form real soil.  A mature soil is formed with clear layers rich in minerals and organic matter, water, air as the minerals and organic matter move downwards in the process of eluviation and the dissolved substances in the process of elution settle in the lower layer.
